The Annunciation of Marie is the English-language title of the 1991 French-Canadian film L'Annonce faite à Marie, an adaptation of the play of the same name by Paul Claudel.

Annunciation, in Christianity, the announcement by the angel Gabriel to the Virgin Mary that she would divinely conceive a son to be called Jesus. The Feast of the Annunciation is celebrated on March 25, nine months before Christmas, and is one of the principal feasts of the Christian church.

The Annunciation recalls the day when the Archangel Gabriel appeared to Mary and revealed God’s will that she become the Mother of the Son of God, and she accepted. At that moment, the “Word became Flesh and dwelt among us” (John 1:14).
On November 18-19, 2002, at the Grand Théâtre in Angers, France, composer Philippe Leroux staged his first opera based on the Paul Claudel play L'Annonce faite à Marie (The Annunciation of Marie), commissioned by the Angers-Nantes Opéra for the occasion.
