Henry Montagu, 1st Earl of Manchester (c. 1563 – 7 November 1642) was an English judge, politician and peer. He is mainly remembered today as the judge who sentenced Sir Walter Raleigh to death.

Biography of Sir Henry Montagu, first Earl of Manchester, judge and statesman during the reigns of King James I and King Charles I.
Biography. Described by Dudley Carleton* in 1606 as one of the ‘apostles of the Lower House’, 62 Montagu was the younger son of a leading Northamptonshire magnate, and was born at his father’s seat of Boughton house shortly before 1567.
