Edgar Sydenstricker (15 July 1881 – 19 March 1936) was an American economist and statistician. Sydenstricker was born on 15 July 1881 in Shanghai to missionaries Caroline Maude (Stulting) (1857–1921) and Absalom Sydenstricker.

Edgar Sydenstricker (1881 – 1936) was a pioneer public health statistician, an eloquent advocate of measures aimed at enhancing the health of the American people, and an inspiring teacher who impressed on his students the importance of recognizing their social responsibility to attack and solve intractable public health problems.
A central figure in this earlier research project was the economist Edgar Sydenstricker. One of the major analytical challenges in studying the economic and dietary causes of pellagra was how to compare across households with similar income levels, but different compositions of adults and children.
