  2. The Brearley School is an all-girls private school in New York City, located on the Upper East Side neighborhood in the borough of Manhattan. The school is divided into lower (kindergarten – grade 4), middle (grades 5–8) and upper (grades 9–12) schools, with approximately 50 to 60 students per grade.

  5. Admissions are currently closed. The admission season for entry in the fall of 2024 is now complete and our school and is fully enrolled for the 2024–2025 academic year. The admission process for entry in the fall of 2025 will start this August. A Brearley Education Unfolds over a Lifetime.

  6. Nearly 140 years of educating girls. In 1884, when it was commonly thought that intellectual activity “took the bloom from ladies,” Samuel A. Brearley, Jr. opened a school in a brownstone in Midtown Manhattan to provide young women with an education comparable to that available to their brothers.

  7. Brearley, an independent school for girls, was founded in 1884 to provide its students with a college-preparatory education equal in rigor to that of boys, and, in the words of our mission statement today, to prepare them for active responsible citizenship in a democratic society.
