Elizabeth Hester Douglas-Home, Baroness Home of the Hirsel (née Alington; 6 November 1909 – 3 September 1990) was the wife of British politician and prime minister Alec Douglas-Home.
It has been a seat of the Earls of Home since 1611, and the principal seat following the destruction of Hume Castle during the mid-17th century. It was the home of the former British prime minister, Sir Alec Douglas-Home, the 14th Earl of Home.

In 1611, the first Earl of Home contracted to buy the Hirsel Estate from Sir John Kerr – although it was not until 1621 that King James VI finally granted the lands of Hirsel to James, the 2 nd Earl of Home. Much of the early tree planting and the existence of the earliest part of Hirsel House appear to have been built by about 1620.

Let us know here. The Hirsel is a 500-acre park with lake and river. A spectacular rhododendron and azalea wood can be seen, along with daffodils in April. The site is a haven for ducks and summer migrants. Also features craft shops, tea room, pottery, museum.
