Richard Whately (born Feb. 1, 1787, London, Eng.—died Oct. 8, 1863, Dublin, Ire.) was an Anglican archbishop of Dublin, educator, logician, and social reformer. The son of a clergyman, Whately was educated at Oriel College, Oxford, and took holy orders.
