Karl Albrecht III. erlebte 1806 in Kupferzell die Mediatisierung des Hauses Hohenlohe. Er trat 1807 seinem Bruder Franz die Herrschaft Schillingsfürst ab. Das Amt Kupferzell unterstand von nun an Waldenburg.

Das Haus Hohenlohe ist ein ursprünglich edel- und hochfreies fränkisches Adelsgeschlecht, das im Heiligen Römischen Reich die reichsunmittelbare Herrschaft Hohenlohe aufbaute, die 1495 zur Grafschaft erhoben wurde. Es zählt damit zum deutschen Hochadel und existiert bis heute in mehreren Linien.
