She was the daughter of Gilbert Sackville, 8th Earl De La Warr (1869–1915) and the former Lady Muriel Agnes Brassey. She had two younger siblings, sister Lady Avice (wife of Sir Stewart Menzies) and brother Herbrand Sackville, 9th Earl De La Warr.
