California Bloodlines is the second album by folk musician John Stewart, former member of The Kingston Trio. This record, which was considered by many to be Stewart's signature album, was recorded in Nashville. Stewart used some of the same musicians who performed on Bob Dylan 's Nashville Skyline, which was recorded at the same studio. [1]

Recorded in Hollywood with many of the same musicians from the earlier record -- Norb Putnam, Kenny Buttrey, Charlie McCoy, among them -- Stewart also employed other country musicians such as banjo boss Bobby Thompson and fiddle player Doug Kershaw as well as a host of his peers ...
Following the critical acclaim of "California Bloodlines" (but commercial failure) John was teamed up with producer Peter Asher by his then manager David Geffen. The result was an album that in hindsight is untypical of Johns work.

It is a technique that has served Peter Asher very well over the years, notably with James Taylor and Linda Ronstadt, and there are plenty of Stewart fans who will not hear a word against the music and singing to be heard on Willard. John's own estimation of Peter Asher's approach?
