William Tobe Hooper fue director, guionista y productor de cine, nacido el 25 de enero de 1943 en Austin, Texas. Desde muy temprana edad, comenzó a hacer sus propias películas caseras con una cámara de 8mm que pertenecía a su padre, Norman Hooper. Debutó como director con la película independiente Eggsheels (1969), que co-escribió con Kim Henkel.
