Ludwig Georg Thedel Graf von Wallmoden (6 February 1769 – 22 March 1862) was an Austrian General of the Cavalry, best known for his training of light infantry and the refinement of the Tirailleur system.
Johann Ludwig Graf von Wallmoden-Gimborn wurde im Erbbegräbnis der Familie in Heinde bei Hildesheim bestattet. Seine bedeutende, fast 600 Werke umfassende Gemäldesammlung wurde 1818 versteigert und in die ganzen Welt verstreut. Etwa 70 Gemälde gelangten in den Besitz des Unternehmers und Politikers Bernhard Hausmann.

The picture can only be traced back to the early nineteenth century, when, as the work of Anthony van Dyck, it was owned by Johann Ludwig, Reichsgraf von Wallmoden-Gimborn (1736–1811), the illegitimate son of King George II of Great Britain and his mistress, Amalie von Wallmoden, who was created Countess of Yarmouth.
