Sir Thomas Burgh (English: / b ʊr æ /; BURRA (pronounced: Borough; c.1431 – 18 March 1496), KG was an English gentleman. In records, the peerage, and genealogy books he is shown as being created 1st Lord Burgh, of Gainsborough {England by writ} on 1 September 1487.
Thomas Burgh, 1st Baron Burgh also spelt Borough, KG (English: / b ʊr æ /; BURRA; pronounced: Borough; c. 1488 – 28 February 1550), 1st Baron Borough of Gainsborough, also de jure 5th Baron Strabolgi and 7th Baron Cobham of Sterborough, was an English peer.
The old Library of Trinity College (old because of a newer neighbour built by Ahrends Burton Koralak) is Thomas Burgh’s masterpiece. A huge building, it originally towered over the university and city after its completion.
Hace 2 días · Sir John Burgh [or Borough] and his brother Thomas, 5th Lord Burgh are both buried in the chapel of St Andrew in Westminster Abbey. They were sons of William, 4th Baron Burgh of Gainsborough. Sir John originally had a plain monument on the east wall of the chapel.
6 de jun. de 2009 · Thomas Burgh (1670-1730) The son of a Bishop, Thomas Burgh (1670-1730) joined the army like many from a landed background. His first recorded building is the enormous Royal Barracks now Collins Barracks begun in 1701.
Thomas Burgh's main aim in life was to resuscitate his family's fortunes, which had declined under his father. He was helped in this by his marriage (at the tender age of eight) to Agnes Tyrwhitt, daughter of a family influential in Lincolnshire, and the neighbouring county of Yorkshire.
