It was in the realm of hillbilly boogie, however, that Mullican had his greatest influence. [ citation needed ] Many of his songs, such as "Pipeliners Blues", "Hey! Mister Cotton-Picker" and "Cherokee Boogie" (his biggest hit, in 1951) foreshadowed a style adopted with widespread popularity by Haley and later rock and rollers.
The lyrics of “Cherokee Boogie” tell a tale of a Cherokee chief who dances along, infusing a white man’s song with an Indian boogie. The memorable chorus, “Hey-ho-a-lina,” echoes throughout the song, captivating listeners with its rhythmic intensity.
