Keitel served in the U.S. Marine Corps and then studied at the Actors Studio. In 1968 he made his film debut in Who’s That Knocking at My Door? (also released as I Call First).
Harvey Keitel plays Penfield Gruber, a once great scientist, reduced to managing a sleazy hotel. Gruber monitors the daily comings and goings of his tenants, mainly for his own interest, until underworld figures ask him to spy on a suspected double-crosser.
