    Jake Dengel (19 June 1933 – 14 November 1994; age 61) was the actor who played Mordoc in the Star Trek: The Next Generation first season episode "The Last Outpost". Archive footage of this appearance was incorporated into the second season episode "Shades of Gray".

    Dengel's film debut was 1964's Twelfth Night based on the William Shakespeare play. In the 1980s, Dengel appeared in Ragtime (1981, with John Anderson, Josh Clark, Brad Dourif, Jim Fitzpatrick, Robert Joy, Andreas Katsulas, Ethan Phillips, and Edward Wiley), Something Wicked This Way Comes (1983, with Ellen Geer), Best Defense (1984, with Raye Birk, Paul Comi, Gene Dynarski, Paul Eiding, Darryl Henriques, John Hostetter, and Joel Polis), and The Best of Times (1986, with Anne Haney and Tony Plana. Also that year, Dengel co-starred in At Close Range with fellow "The Last Outpost" guest star Tracey Walter in their first work together. Dengel then acted in his first western, the 1988 telefilm The Tracker with Geoffrey Blake, David Huddleston, Mark Moses, and Leon Rippy. Dengel's next telefilm role was 1989's Manhunt: Search for the Night Stalker with James Harper and Angela Paton.

    The 1990s found Dengel appearing in Blind Faith with David Andrews, Jefrey Alan Chandler, Gordon Clapp, Aaron Lustig, Dakin Matthews, Marilyn Rockafellow, Jimmie F. Skaggs, Jay Underwood, and Edward Wiley. Next Dengel rejoined Skaggs in Lucky Chances with Stephanie Beacham, Phil Morris, and Tim Ryan. He also appeared in Prayer of the Rollerboys (1990, with Star Trek: Deep Space Nine star Aron Eisenberg and Deep Space Nine guest star Loren Lester, Diary of a Hitman (1991, with Seymour Cassel and Brett Rickaby), Lady Boss (1992, with Jeff Austin, Beth Toussaint-Coleman, Georgann Johnson, and Nick Tate), Four Eyes and Six Guns (1992, with John Schuck). In 1993 Dengel acted in The Contenders with Zach Grenier.

    In television, Dengel received a spot on T. J. Hooker starring William Shatner and James Darren. Then Dengel was seen on Hardcastle and McCormick starring Brian Keith and Daniel Hugh Kelly (1984). Dengel joined more Trek alumni on Hill Street Blues starring Barbara Bosson and James B. Sikking (1986). They were joined by Joey Aresco, Megan Gallagher, and Steve Vinovich.
