Mathieu Maximilien Prosper de Lesseps (4 March 1771—28 December 1832) was a French diplomat and high ranking public official who served, from 1797 until his death, in numerous foreign and domestic posts.

Mathieu Maximilien Prosper Comte de Lesseps (Hambourg 4 mars 1771 - Tunis 28 décembre 1832, inhumé à Carthage). Diplomate et haut fonctionnaire français. Le 21 mai 1801, il épousa à Malaga Catherine de Grevigné y Gallegos (1730–1823), grand-tante de l’impératrice Eugénie de Montijo.

Mathieu Maximilien Prosper de Lesseps was a French diplomat and high ranking public official who served, from 1797 until his death, in numerous foreign and domestic posts. One of his sons, Ferdinand de Lesseps, was the developer and guiding spirit in charge of the construction of the Suez Canal.
Como de Lesseps había esperado, la opinión pública europea había protestado violentamente contra la negativa del sultán de aprobar la construcción.
