Bernhard Russi (born 20 August 1948) is a former World Cup alpine ski racer from Switzerland. Born in Andermatt in the canton of Uri, he is an Olympic, World Cup, and World champion in the downhill event.
Bernhard Russi has devoted his entire life to downhill skiing, first as world and Olympic champion in the 1970s and then, since 1988, as the designer of Olympic downhill courses.
World champion, Olympic champion. On 15 February 1970, the 22-year-old Russi, who was competing in his first big international race, won on the Sasslong in Val Gardena, beating all the favourites to become world downhill champion.

Leading up to the 1972 Winter Olympics Russi won four World Cup events (including the giant slalom once) and the 1971 downhill title and entered the Games as the favourite. He did not disappoint, capturing the gold medal ahead of his compatriot Roland Collombin .
