Joey Maxim. Giuseppe Antonio Berardinelli (March 28, 1922 – June 2, 2001) was an American professional boxer. He was a World Light Heavyweight Champion. He took the ring-name Joey Maxim from the Maxim gun, the world's first self-acting machine gun, based on his ability to rapidly throw a large number of left jabs . Early life.
Maxim was knocked down in the 8th round. Referee Goldstein was overcome by the 104 degree heat and had to be replaced by Ray Miller in Round 10. Robinson retired on his stool after Round 13, suffering from heat prostration. Robinson retired from boxing in December 1952. Murphy was a 5-12 favorite coming into the bout.

Joey Maxim. WHAT Joey Maxim lacked in power, he made up for with outstanding boxing ability. Although he only scored 21 knockouts in 115 carerr bouts, he managed to beat some of the best fighters of his era. Maxim turned pro in Cleveland at the age of 18 in 1941. Within his first 11 fights he decisioned contenders Nate Bolden and Red Burman.
