Stanley Anthony Coveleski (born Stanislaus Kowalewski, July 13, 1889 – March 20, 1984) was an American right-handed pitcher in Major League Baseball who played for four American League (AL) teams between 1912 and 1928, primarily the Cleveland Indians.

In 1969, he was inducted into the Hall of Fame in recognition of a career record of 215-142, a .602 winning percentage, 38 shutouts and a career ERA of 2.89. He was a control pitcher who relied on the then-legal spitball as a key component of his repertoire.

To keep hitters off balance, Coveleski went to his mouth before every pitch. “I wouldn’t throw all spitballs,” he later explained.
