Eugene Luther "Gene" Vidal (/ v ɪ ˈ d ɑː l /; April 13, 1895 – February 20, 1969) was an American commercial aviation pioneer, New Deal official, inventor, and athlete.

In 1943, after graduating from Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire, he entered the Reserve Corps of the U.S. Army. He later joined the Army Transportation Corps as an officer and was sent to the Aleutian Islands.
