Kvitova, now 31, had lost her first-round matches in 2008 and 2009, but in 2010 the 20-year-old was a revelation at Wimbledon. She defeated Sorana Cirstea, Zheng Jie, Victoria Azarenka, Caroline Wozniacki and Kaia Kanepi in succession to reach the semifinals.
