Harold Stanley (October 2, 1885 – May 14, 1963) was an American businessman and one of the founders of Morgan Stanley in 1935. For 20 years, he ran Morgan Stanley until he left the firm in 1955.
The son of engineer William Stanley, whose inventions ranged from a game-changing transformer to an all-steel vacuum flask, Harold Stanley told Yale classmates that he wanted to go into business.
Morgan Stanley opened its first international office in 1967, launching Morgan & Cie. International in Paris with Morgan Guaranty Trust Co., to pursue the growing European securities market. In 1970, Morgan Stanley was among the first global investment banks to establish a presence in Japan.
