William Paterson (Dumfries y Galloway, Escocia, abril de 1658-Westminster, Londres, 22 de enero de 1719) fue un comerciante y banquero escocés.
William Paterson was an Irish-born American jurist, one of the framers of the U.S. Constitution, U.S. senator (1789–90), and governor of New Jersey (1790–93). He also served as an associate justice of the U.S. Supreme Court from 1793 to 1806.

William Paterson (December 24, 1745 – September 9, 1806) was an American statesman, lawyer, jurist, and signer of the United States Constitution. He was an Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court, the second governor of New Jersey, and a Founding Father of the United States.
Elected to serve in the first Senate of the United States, Paterson worked with the group which wrote the Judiciary Act of 1789 which established a federal judiciary. In 1791, he resigned from the Senate to succeed William Livingston as Governor of New Jersey.
