The Devious Path (German: Abwege), also titled Crisis, is a 1928 German silent drama film directed by Georg Wilhelm Pabst starring Gustav Diessl and Brigitte Helm.
Underrated and all but forgotten by film historians, G.W. Pabst’s The Devious Path is, on the surface, a story of marital crisis and sexual mores in Weimar Germany. Released in 1928, it is also a prime example of a post-Expressionist film that eschews distorted sets, demonic characters, and far-fetched narratives.

The Devious Path starts out as a young wife's cry for freedom, only to devolve in its third act into the wife's meek return and, in the final reel, a Hollywood-style comedy of remarriage.
