Paolo Camillo Thaon, Marquess of Revel (10 June 1859 – 24 March 1948), latterly titled with the honorary title of 1st Duke of the Sea, was an Italian admiral of the Regia Marina during World War I and later a politician. Early life and career.
The Thaon di Revel class (also known as PPA for 'Pattugliatore Polivalente d'Altura - Multipurpose Offshore Patrol Vessel') is a class of multipurpose offshore ships built by Fincantieri for the Italian Navy. It is planned to replace four Soldati-class light patrol frigates and eight Minerva-class corvettes between 2021/2035.
Paolo Camillo Margherita Giuseppe Maria Thaon di Revel, noto semplicemente come Paolo Thaon di Revel, duca del Mare (Torino, 10 giugno 1859 – Roma, 24 marzo 1948), è stato un ammiraglio, politico e nobile italiano. In tre circostanze gli fu conferita la croce di guerra al valore militare.
Paolo Thaon di Revel was laid down on 9 May 2017 at Fincantieri Muggiano and launched on 15 June 2019. Expected to be commissioned in May 2021. 15 November 2019, she underwent her first sea trial off the Gulf of La Spezia. The vessel was delivered to the Italian Navy in March, 2022.

Revel's Paolo Thaon ship is the first of the seven Multi Purpose Combat Ships that are part of the plan to renew the operational lines of the Navy's naval units, decided by the Government and Parliament and launched in May 2015 under the aegis of OCCAR (Organisation for Joint Armaments Cooperation).
