John Augustine Washington Sr. (January 13, 1736 – January 8, 1787) was an American planter and politician best known as the younger brother of George Washington and the father of Supreme Court Justice Bushrod Washington ., [1] [2] he was also the grandfather of John Augustine Washington Jr.

John Augustine Washington III was the great-grand nephew of George Washington and the last private owner of Mount Vernon. The fourth of five children, he was born on May 3, 1821 to John Augustine Washington II and Jane Charlotte Blackburn Washington.

In 1802, following the death of Martha Washington, Bushrod Washington, inherited the Mount Vernon estate. Bushrod, who was the eldest son of George Washington's brother, John Augustine, was an accomplished judge who was admitted to the United States Supreme Court in 1798.
