Baron Ludwig von Windthorst (17 January 1812 – 14 March 1891) was a German politician and leader of the Catholic Centre Party and the most notable opponent of Chancellor Otto von Bismarck during the Prussian-led unification of Germany and the Kulturkampf.

Ludwig Joseph Ferdinand Gustav Windthorst (* 17. Januar 1812 auf Gut Caldenhof bei Ostercappeln bei Osnabrück; † 14. März 1891 in Berlin) war ein deutscher Politiker der katholischen Deutschen Zentrumspartei. Ursprünglich kam er aus dem Königreich Hannover, das 1866 von Preußen annektiert wurde.

Als sich die Mehrheitssituation Anfang der 1850er Jahre verschob, trat Windthorst 1851 als Justizminister in die Regierung ein – ein immenser sozialer Aufstieg für einen nichtadeligen katholischen Akademiker. Seine Entlassung erfolgte 1853 mit Beteiligung des preußischen Bundesratsgesandten Otto von Bismarck.
