Robert Stewart, 1st Marquess of Londonderry PC (Ire) (1739–1821), was a County Down landowner, Irish Volunteer, and member of the parliament who, exceptionally for an Ulster Scot and Presbyterian, rose within the ranks of Ireland's "Anglican Ascendancy."

Stewart, Robert (1739–1821), 1st marquess of Londonderry , politician, was born 27 September 1739 in Dublin, eldest son of Alexander Stewart (1697–1781), landowner in Co. Down and briefly MP for Derry city (1760), and his wife Mary Stewart (née Cowan), his cousin and an heiress with a fortune estimated at over £100,000.
The County Down estates were extended by his son Robert (1739-1821), who built Mount Stewart, and who was created Baron Londonderry in 1789, Viscount Castlereagh in 1795, Earl of Londonderry in 1796 and Marquess of Londonderry in 1816.
