Born in Kleinheubach, Kingdom of Bavaria, Aloysius was the sixth child and second son of Charles, Prince of Löwenstein-Wertheim-Rosenberg (1834–1921), brother of titular Queen consort of Portugal Adelaide of Löwenstein-Wertheim-Rosenberg, and his wife Princess Sophie of Liechtenstein (1837-1899).
Löwenstein-Wertheim was a county of the Holy Roman Empire, part of the Franconian Circle.
