Henry Harford (5 April 1758 – 8 December 1834), 5th Proprietor of Maryland, was the last proprietary owner of the British colony of Maryland. He was born in 1758; the eldest — but illegitimate — son of Frederick Calvert 6th Baron Baltimore and his mistress Mrs. Hester Whelan.

RESIDED: in England, at his house in London or his country estate, "Down Place," near Windsor, Berkshire, England; in Maryland, at the Annapolis home of Dr. Upton Scott, 1783-1786. FAMILY BACKGROUND.
Before his death, Frederick made his illegitimate son Henry Harford, his heir. Using elaborate steps, Frederick instructed Governor Eden to declare the province of Maryland for Henry upon his death. The province of Maryland did recognize Henry as the heir, but his cousins, the Brownings, did not.
Henry Harford (ca. 1759-1834) Harford did not succeed to the title when Frederick died on September 4, 1771, because Harford was his illegitimate son, but was bequeathed the province of Maryland in Frederick's will.
