Roscoe Conkling (October 30, 1829 – April 18, 1888) was an American lawyer and Republican politician who represented New York in the United States House of Representatives and the United States Senate. He was a leader of the Republican Stalwart faction and a dominant figure in the United States Senate during the 1870s.

Conkling had entered law and politics at an early age and was elected mayor of Utica before he was 30. Shortly thereafter in 1859, Conkling was elected to Congress in 1859. He served until he was defeated in 1862 — in part because of the strong showing of his Democratic brother-in-law, Horatio Seymour in the gubernatorial race.
