  5. 17 de oct. de 2023 · Zollicoffer was ordered to East Tennessee to take command and preserve the peace, protect the railroad, and repel invasion by U.S. troops. After his arrival in East Tennessee, Zollicoffer became aware of the organizing of troops at Camp Dick Robinson in Kentucky.

  6. Confederate General Felix K. Zollicoffer had guarded the Cumberland Gap against Union attempts to get into Tennessee since the Fall of 1861. As part of his strategy he had sent about 4,000 men across the Cumberland River where they established a fortified camp near the town of Mill Springs.

  7. On October 21, 1861, Confederate forces under the command of Felix Zollicoffer attacked Federal positions at Camp Wildcat along the Wilderness Road. In the resulting action, Zollicoffer was defeated and forced back into Tennessee. This victory was one of the first Union victories in Kentucky and provided a much-needed morale booster to the North.
