John Cam Hobhouse, a statesman, was the eldest son of Sir Benjamin Hobhouse, bart., by his first wife, Charlotte, daughter and heiress of Samuel Cam of Chantry House, Bradford, Wiltshire. He was born at Redland near Bristol, on 27 June 1786.
