Stanley Knapp Hathaway (July 19, 1924 – October 4, 2005) was an American politician who served as the 27th Governor of Wyoming from 1967 to 1975, and would later serve as United States Secretary of the Interior under President Gerald Ford from June 12 to October 9, 1975.

Hathaway was elected to two terms as governor in 1966 and 1970. During his tenure, Governor Hathaway chaired the Western Governors’ Conference from 1970 to 1971 and he served on the National Governors’ Conference Executive Committee from 1968 to 1969.
Stanley Hathaway was born on July 19, 1924, in Osceola, Nebraska. Hathaway was elected Goshen County Attorney in 1954 and served two terms. In 1966 he was elected Governor of Wyoming and was re-elected in 1970. He declined to run for a third term. In 1975, Hathaway was appointed Secretary of the Interior by President Gerald Ford.
Hathaway was vice chairman of the Western Governors' Conference from 1969 to 1970 and chairman from 1970 to 1971. President Gerald Ford nominated him on April 4, 1975, to become the secretary of the Interior, succeeding Rogers C. B. Morton, whom Ford nominated to become secretary of Commerce.
22 de feb. de 2021 · In February 1969, Wyoming Governor Stan Hathaway took pen in hand to enact a 1% severance tax rate on all mineral production. Wyoming had levied no severance taxes on minerals from the time of statehood in 1890 until that time.
Stanley Hathaway was elected to two terms as Governor in 1966 and 1970. Appointed Secretary of the Interior by President Ford in June 1975, Hathaway resigned the next month due to ill health.
