William Howard Taft IV (born September 13, 1945) is an American diplomat and attorney who has served in the United States government under several Republican administrations. He is a son of William Howard Taft III and a great-grandson of President William Howard Taft.
William H. Taft IV has served as the Legal Adviser to the Secretary of State since April 2001. He is the principal adviser on all domestic and international legal matters to the Department of State, the Foreign Service, and the diplomatic and consular posts abroad.
