Mirabeau Buonaparte Lamar (August 16, 1798 – December 19, 1859) was an American attorney, politician, poet, and leading political figure during the Texas Republic era. He was elected as the second president of the Republic of Texas after Sam Houston.

Mirabeau Buonaparte Lamar (born Aug. 16, 1798, Louisville, Ga., U.S.—died Dec. 19, 1859, Richmond, Texas) was the second president of the Republic of Texas. After an unsuccessful career as a merchant in Alabama, Lamar took a position as secretary to the governor of Georgia.
