18 de may. de 2012 · Thomas Nelson, Jr. (December 26, 1738 – January 4, 1789) was a wealthy plantation owner from the infamous town of Yorktown, Virginia. He was elected to represent Virginia as a delegate at the Second Continental Congress and would serve as the Governor of Virginia in 1781.

26 de feb. de 2015 · On June 12, 1781, Nelson was elected to succeed Thomas Jefferson as governor of Virginia. Nelson was granted almost dictatorial powers due to the British invasion and the resulting military emergency.
A fun fact to start: The first and second sessions of the 1st US Congress were held in Federal Hall in New York City. From December 1790 through May 1800, Congress met in Congress Hall, adjacent to Independence Hall (then known as the State House), where the Declaration of Independence was signed.
