James Henry Robert Innes-Ker, 6th Duke of Roxburghe, KT (12 July 1816 – 23 April 1879) was a Scottish peer . Early life. Innes-Ker was the only surviving child of the 5th Duke of Roxburghe and the former Harriet Charlewood ( c. 1778 –1855).
In 1812 the House of Lords ruled in favour of Sir James Innes-Ker, 6th Baronet, of Innes (see Innes baronets ), rejecting claims by the heir female of the second earl and heir male whatsoever of the first earl.
In 1812, Sir James Innes (1736-1823), 6th Baronet of Innes, became the 5th Duke of Roxburghe. He had been a descendant of the 1st Earl of Roxburghe. In 1807 he had assumed the name of Innes-Ker. He was succeeded by his son James Henry Robert Innes-Ker (1816-1879), 6th Duke of Roxburghe.
6th Duke Roxburghe, James Henry Robert Innes- Ker (1816-1879) Coming into his inheritance at the tender age of seven, following the death of his father in 1823, the young duke was raised at Floors by his mother, Harriet, and from 1827, by her second husband, Lieutenant Colonel Walter Frederick O’Reilly.
He is the eldest son of the 10th Duke of Roxburghe and his first wife, the former Lady Jane Meriel Grosvenor, daughter of the 5th Duke of Westminster. [1] His uncle was Gerald Grosvenor, 6th Duke of Westminster.
