  7. In 1614 Rich was a candidate for one of the knights of the shire for Norfolk, where his brother owned property. He was nominated by the lord chamberlain, Thomas Howard, earl of Suffolk, and mustered between 3,000 and 4,000 freeholders for the county court at Norwich on 7 March.
