  1. Henry Rich, 1st Earl of Holland KG KB PC (baptised 15 August 1590, died 9 March 1649), was an English courtier and politician executed by Parliament after being captured fighting for the Royalists during the Second English Civil War.

  2. In 1614 Rich was a candidate for one of the knights of the shire for Norfolk, where his brother owned property. He was nominated by the lord chamberlain, Thomas Howard, earl of Suffolk, and mustered between 3,000 and 4,000 freeholders for the county court at Norwich on 7 March.

  3. Henry Rich, 1st Earl of Holland. (1590-1649), Courtier. Sitter in 27 portraits. A courtier and favourite of James I and later Henrietta Maria, whose marriage with Charles I he helped to negotiate, it was said that Rich's 'features and pleasant aspect equalled the most beautiful women'.

  4. Like his brother, the Earl of Warwick, Holland took part in colonisation. He was the first governor of the Providence Company (4 Dec 1630), and one of the lords-proprietors of Newfoundland (13 Nov 1637).
