Caroline Lake Ingalls (née Quiner,) or "Ma" was the wife of Charles Ingalls and the biological mother of Laura, Mary, Carrie, Charles Jr. and Grace Ingalls. She is also the adoptive mother of three children: Albert Quinn and James and Cassandra Cooper.
Caroline Lake Quiner was born 12 December 1839, in Brookfield (Milwaukee County) Wisconsin, the fifth of eight children of Henry Newton Quiner and Charlotte Wallis Tucker. She had older brothers Joseph (born 1834) and Henry (born 1835), and older sister Martha Jane (born 1837).
