Harriet Hemings (May 1801 – after 1822) was born into slavery at Monticello, the home of Thomas Jefferson, third President of the United States, in the first year of his presidency.

She grew up with her three brothers and a large extended family at Monticello. Like her mother, Hemings was enslaved by her father, and she worked in the textile workshop as a wool spinner.
