Oskar Barnack (Nuthe-Urstromtal, 1 de noviembre de 1879-Bad Nauheim, 16 de enero de 1936) fue un inventor y fotógrafo alemán que construyó en 1913 la primera cámara fotográfica de 35 mm, posteriormente llamada Ur-Leica, en la fábrica Leitz (Ernst Leitz Optische Werke) en Wetzlar.

Nacido en 1879 y fallecido en 1936, no solo fue un maravilloso técnico y constructor, sino también un fotógrafo y filmador aficionado.
Creador de la Leica y de la fotografía en 35 mm. Nació el 1 de noviembre de 1879 en Berlín. Trabajó entre 1902 y 1910 en la Carl Zeiss. Barnack diseñó en 1913 un pequeño aparato con objetivo de 50 mm f:3,5 y obturador de cortina, para película cinematográfica de 35 mm de ancho, que proporcionaba fotogramas de 24 x 36 mm.

From 1914, Oskar Barnack (1879–1936), the inventor of the Leica, used the prototype camera he developed, today known as the Ur-Leica, for photography. He captured various events in entire series of photographs and became one of the earliest photographers to document the relationships between man and the environment.
