Benjamin Franklin was born on January 17, 1706 in Boston in what was known as the Massachusetts Bay Colony. He was born on a small house on 17 Milk Street, across the street from the Old Meeting House. His father was Josiah Franklin, soap and candle maker. His mother was Abiah Folger, a home maker.

Abiah Lee Folger (1667-1752) was born in Nantucket, Massachusetts on August 15, 1667 to Peter and Mary Morrell Folger. Her father was a miller and schoolteacher. Peter’s parents were reformist Flemish Protestants who fled to America to escape religious persecution in 1635.
