[1] After the war, Prince Francis Xavier as regent for the underage Elector Friedrich August III sought to reform the army to Prussian model, but failed because of the resistance of the estates because of high costs.
On 8 October 1761, Prince Francis Xavier of Saxony attacked Wolfenbüttel with a Saxon-French corps, which surrendered two days later. Then Xavier's army turned against Braunschweig and on 13 October began a siege of the city.
