Eventually, Ulugh Beg's reputation was rehabilitated by his nephew, Abdallah Mirza (1450–1451), who placed his remains at Timur's feet in the Gur-e-Amir in Samarkand, where they were found by Soviet archaeologists in 1941.
Muḥammad Ṭaraghāy ibn Shāhruj ibn Tīmūr, conocido como Ulugh Beg (22 de marzo de 1394 – 27 de octubre de 1449) fue un gobernante timúrida, sucesivamente gobernador de Transoxiana y Turquestán, regente (12 de marzo de 1447 - 27 de octubre de 1449) y sultán.
Ulugh Beg, cuyo nombre completo era Mirza Muhammad Taraghay bin Shahrukh, nació en 1394 en Sultán, una ciudad situada en el actual Uzbekistán. Era nieto del famoso conquistador Tamerlán y pertenecía a la dinastía timúrida, una de las más influyentes en Asia Central durante el siglo XIV y XV.
Las fuerzas de Ulugh Beg fueron derrotadas y tuvo que rendirse. Con el consentimiento de Abdulatif, Mirzo Ulugbek fue a La Meca, pero en el camino los traidores capturaron a Ulugbek y decapitaron al gobernante. Esto ocurrió el 27 de octubre de 1449.
