His wife was Helena, a member of the Sturdza family and daughter of Ioan Sturdza, who had been Prince of Moldavia from 1822 to 1828.
Grigore Alexandru Ghica a fost domn al Moldovei sub numele Grigore al V-lea Ghica în perioada mai 1849 - octombrie 1853 și octombrie 1854 - 3 iunie 1856. Descendent din marea familie boierească a Ghiculeştilor, era nepot al lui Mihail Sturdza şi ginerele lui Ioniţă Sandu Sturdza.
