Philip James Hanlon (born April 10, 1955) is an American mathematician, computer scientist, and academic administrator, who served as the 18th president of Dartmouth College, his alma mater, from June 2013 until June 2023.
Philip J. Hanlon '77 is the inaugural Dartmouth Trustee professor of mathematics and president emeritus of Dartmouth College. As a mathematician, Hanlon's academic research is focused on probability and combinatorics, the study of finite structures and their significance as they relate to bioinformatics, computer science, and other fields.
