Johann Tobias Mayer ( Gotinga, Alemania, 5 de mayo de 1752 — Gotinga, 30 de noviembre de 1830) fue un matemático, físico y astrónomo alemán, hijo del astrónomo y físico Tobias Mayer.
Johann Tobias Mayer studied theology and philosophy since 1769 at the Georg-August University of Göttingen (founded 1737) under Abraham Gotthelf Kästner and later also with Georg Christoph Lichtenberg. After graduating in 1773, Mayer worked as a lecturer in mathematics and as an astronomer.
Johann Tobias Mayer (born Feb. 17, 1723, Marbach, Württemberg—died Feb. 20, 1762, Göttingen) was a German astronomer who developed lunar tables that greatly assisted navigators in determining longitude at sea. Mayer also discovered the libration (or apparent wobbling) of the Moon.
