Rokotov, Fedor Stepanovich. I. A. (Vorontsovo?, Moscú, h. 1735-San Petersburgo, 1808). Pintor ruso. Probablemente provenía de una familia de siervos del príncipe Repnin. En torno a 1750 se trasladó a San Petersburgo. Colaboró con el pintor Pietro Rotari, cuya influencia rococó se advierte en su obra.

He is credited with inventing a uniquely personal style in Russian portrait painting. Though he was a serf or freed serf by birth, Rokotov’s art.
Fyodor Rokotov is an important figure in the Russian art of the XVIII century; he is mainly known as the master of the portrait painting of the Enlightenment, and his outstanding talent can be compared perhaps only to Dmitry Levitsky, another exceptionally gifted portraitist.
